Giant python stops eating a pet cat after a concerned resident paused to take a photograph

The terrifying moment a huge snake wrapped around someone’s pet cat before devouring it has been caught on camera.

The three-and-a-half meter python was seen strangling the grey and white household cat over a drain in the Whitsundays, in far north Queensland, last week.

Whitsunday Harbour Apartments’ maintenance man Steve Brierley was going about his daily chores when he came across the large reptile attempting to eat the cat, the Daily Mercury reports.

He says the snake stopped what it was doing as soon as he stumbled across it.
As soon as he saw the snake he contacted a resident in the apartment block who took photos and notified the cat’s owner as to what had happened.

‘Everyone should keep an eye on their pets because the weather is getting colder and snakes are looking for food before they go into hibernation,’ Mr. Brierley said.

Whitsunday Landcare Catchment coordinator Cath Campbell said cat owners should know where their animals are to avoid potentially deadly situations.

Cats were in danger of being attacked or killed and were capable of killing other wildlife such as birds and lizards if allowed to roam freely, she said.
